Over the last few years I have read and seen on TV that many jurisdiction in the US apparently do not run DNA analysis on the rape kit evidence. There appears to be two reasons for not running the analyses. The first is financial. Each test cost between $600 and $800. There are various reasons for not spending the money on the DNA analyses, but I believe in the real world that politicians cannot claim to be tough on crime and then not process the best identification available. The second fact is that the results do not match DNA in the national databases. This second fact may be because rape is a unique kind of crime. This is the real world. In our fictional story the politicians and police are tough and thorough in their efforts to stop crime. Like my main character Sergeant Bill Simpson and his lady friend Mattie Greene, I personally believe most random street rapes are committed by serial rapists. They move from town to town and state to state. This is the basis for the fictional story Nottingham Harbor. Enjoy the story.
