When writing short stories there is always a need to catch the reader's attention with the first sentence or two. The aim of this booklet is to provide an opening on which you can build a story, in particular, a horror or mystery story. I have also provided a 'working title', but this is optional and you may wish to change this as the story progresses. When writing short stories try and think 'outside the box' as the saying goes.
There are one hundred opening lines to wet your imagination and I'm sure from this selection you will be able to come up with some gripping tales. Spend a little time thinking about each situation and how a story could be composed from theses openers. Take the sentence (or two) of your choice and write it down on a blank sheet of paper. You can then start to 'mind map' on this blank sheet all the ideas that appear in your head. Put down anything that may be relevant. Once you have enough material you are ready to begin.
