God has begun a work in your life that has left you utterly raw and exhausted and consuming just about anything you can put your hands on that may help make sense of what you are going through. You are starved for something, something more, but you can't explain the hunger or satisfy it by anything the world offers you. That insatiable hunger is exactly what sent you running toward anything that promised you success and promised you God's heart and will is to make all your dreams come true in this life, if you can only muster up enough faith and courage to believe and claim it. And after the high that comes from a rush of emotions over how great it sounds to be Christian and to get everything you have ever dreamed of by a loving Father, you don't see love materializing. After the swarm of countless well-meaning believers of Christ tell you it will all be better now that you have accepted Jesus into your life...you are just plain tired and worn out.
What is happening?
Your life is imploding. Branches of your life are being severed, cut back and pruned until there is nothing left of what you once were. You don't feel energetic at all. You are not bright eyed. In fact, you feel dried-out and dim and withered like petals during a ragging forest fire. As you settle into being a new Christian you are left as empty and confused as before, questioning everything about "religion", God's love, and the bible. Sometimes you doubt the very existence of God, a father who supposedly loves you, but you have nowhere else to go. There is this groaning inside you. A hunger and sadness so intense and all-consuming that you can't escape the relentless sounding of it. The hunger and need opens craters in your being. You have been robbed of the happiness and joy this world once provided (which was all a façade and you realize that now). You have been robbed of wealth, health, and security. You don't know who to blame...Satan...or God. You feel picked on. Targeted. Personally attack. You cannot go back, and you cannot move forward. You are in a rough place. You are powerless. You are weak. You are uncomfortable in your skin. You are solely depended upon Him because ...you have absolutely nothing else to depend on.
Welcome to the destructive power of an almighty God!
This book contains some hard questions I have asked over the past two years, reflective moments in dark times. I pray, if anything, this book cultivates in you a desire to know God more intimately.
