The Author, of indeterminate age lives in North London, is a writer, historian, and keen sailor. He unwittingly purchased a 45ft sailing yacht whilst visiting the 2003 Southampton Boat show having never sailed before. The learning curve was steep and after a 'heavy' night in the bar of a Hamble Yacht Club, the author found he had boasted he would 'cross the Atlantic next year.' Much to his dismay his friends and future crew believed him and there was no backing out. He has written a humorous and cynical description of what he believes to be the realities of sailing, from the basics of surviving in waters surrounded by assorted floating objects, racing yachts and ships, to reluctantly crossing an ocean, in irreverent style.
