There are two tales of conjured folklore told within this story about how Paddy, who was not yet a saint at the time, might have worked his ways to rid Ireland of snakes early in the 5th Century. The first tale tells how he might have accomplished this heroic feat singlehanded. The second tale explains what happens after he saves the life of a leprechaun. It was common knowledge, back then, that when you save the life of a magical wee little folk, the lifesaver is entitled to one request that the leprechaun must fulfill as a debt of honor. However, Paddy’s request presents a most unique challenge—it’s totally different from any wish that’s ever been requested.
