A Dangerous Man is a historical romantic adventure set in the summer of 1853, during the height of the Gold Rush in California. After the near rape by her stepbrother, Ariel St. Clair flees her home in San Francisco, believing she has foiled the plans her stepmother has concocted to usurp her inheritance. She hitches her horse to the back of a stagecoach leaving for Jackson, California, a mining camp in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. When the stagecoach way station is attacked by bandits, she manages to escape on her palomino, heading in the wrong direction. A short time later, she finds the unconscious body of Rafe Winters on the trail. He is the illegitimate son of a California cattle rancher, educated in England and returning home when he is shot by hired assassins and left for dead. Their lives become intertwined as Ariel attempts to avoid her stepbrother's pursuit and uncover the secret Rafe is hiding. The threat of renewed hostilities with Mexico is the catalyst that propels them into dangerous territory...and force them to run for their lives.
