A really interesting look at ancient Egypt and all aspects of it. Mackenzie covers so much in this book and even as I was skimming through whilst formatting it, it kept distracting me with it's fascinating content. It's not as scholarly a book as, perhaps the Wallis Budge ones, but that's not entirely a bad thing. It's very readable and he delves into historical record, religious texts and even gives an account of a day in Memphis. He writes about Amon and Ra, the Golden Age of Egypt, the religion of the stone workers, Amenhotep and Rameses, and he does all this in a page turning format. Includes several chrome plates and 7 colour ones.
