"Our Danger and Our Duty," published in 1862, is a pamphlet or tract written by the Rev. James Henley Thornwell (1812-1862), a Southern Presbyterian preacher who advocated on behalf of slavery and the Confederate cause. A native of South Carolina, Thornwell was instrumental in the founding of the Presbyterian Church in the Confederate States of America and taught at Columbia Theological Seminary in South Carolina. He died in August of 1862 of tuberculosis and so did not live to see the outcome of the U.S. Civil War.
