One Man and a Box is the true story of a lanky comedian attempting to tour the UK using public transport only. Lost without his beloved Ford Fiesta, which blew up a week before the tour, Paul Richards is then, well, lost, on various trains, busses and the odd boat as he travels from Dorset to the Shetland Islands with a box drum on his back. A charming adventure about a man attempting to bring an alternative comedy show to villages where they weren't always expecting him. There's at least one breakdown, one altercation with a cow, a lot of confused people and, of course, moments of beautiful realisation that he is totally living the dream. If, of course, the dream means running through a village in North Yorkshire in the middle of the night in a bid to escape the worst show of his career. From sellout shows and being drunk with the locals to travelling 28 hours by ferry to perform in front of 4 people, this is a candid tale about life on the road.
"You've got a career plan, but I've got a dream,
I'm breaking the rules, you're so pitifully mainstream,
You want to settle in a village, I'll live wherever,
You've never understood my somewhat childish endeavours,
You want to retire at 65? I'll be doing this forever."
