In an age when the poor were very poor and the rich extremely rich, when the divide between the two was wider than the Pacific Ocean and the rich delighted in making the poor suffer, the fate of the common man was work hard and die young, or strike out on his own to make his fortune and there was no better place to do just that, than the Caribbean and become a Pirate.
