In this humorous short story Mad Mick and his dim cellmate are released from a stretch in an RAF house of correction and demobilised in ignominious circumstances.
With his last few coins Mick places an accumulator horseracing bet which comes up trumps at staggeringly high odds. The problem is Mick did not place the bet himself and so begins a slapstick search to find the person who did.
He and his mate scour the local pubs in a charade of sham and farce and finally catch up with their quarry at a pyrotechnic display. He claims he was unable to place the bet but our protagonists do not believe him, recover the cash from his person, and exact revenge on the welsher in a highly comedic finale…
