Set in the year 1963, this tragicomic novel tells the story of two high school graduates, Henry and Davis, who attempt to create a career as country-music singers while also trying to escape the confines of small-town Cairo, Georgia. Their friendship becomes physical love, which confuses their plans and causes them to lose their direction, while they explore what was, at the time, a forbidden romantic relationship.
Full of rural color, quirky humor and tender moments, FOOLS LIKE ME is a road novel, a coming-of-age narrative and a story of gay love in pre-Stonewall America.
