Socialism for Smart Folks: A Popular Guide for Open Minds (English Edition)

If you consider yourself smart, then this book is for you, whatever your political persuasion. It does require an open and inquiring mind. It is not going to be a lecture on the "true meaning" of socialism, whatever that may be. It is certainly not intended to be the authoritative last word on the subject. The purpose of this book is to present a personal view of socialism, hopefully one that makes sense and is rooted in the real world. It will necessarily be imperfect, incomplete, idiosyncratic, and perhaps at some points superficial, but hopefully also informative enough and perhaps even convincing. I do not just want to preach to the small socialist choir. I want to reach a wider audience, not just those who have already joined the congregation. So I will avoid political or academic jargon in favor of plain and hopefully readable language in a conversational tone, laced with occasional irreverence, some humor, and a sense of irony.
