This is the story of a pilgrimage that doesn't end in Santiago de Compostela, or Finistere or anywhere. It's about the gentlest of searches in the most generous of circumstances: where each day is an endless repetition of routines and yet each day is uniquely itself, full of the unexpected, the disheartening and the wonderful. In the European summer and spring of 2012 the author and his wife walked about 1300 kilometres from Conques in France to a little beyond Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Originally drafted as personal letters to friends and family, this book is not a Camino guide but an invitation to climb onto John's backpack for an intimate view of both the exterior and interior experience of long distance walking through the eyes of a contemporary seeker. Albeit, a seeker who humourously stumbles and grumbles along the Way and occasionally tumbles 'into the cave of the heart' where he is surprised by 'the sneaky joy at the core of ordinary things'. Welcome aboard!
