Her dream had been to live happily ever after but when her husband of twenty years leaves her, Cassandra Fletcher is left in the house alone, depressed and without a plan until she decides to contact the only person who would be able to help her.
Nell Parker was a long ago friend and the only single woman she knew that was smart and financially independent.
Nell sends Cassandra to her beach house on Kangaroo Island while the sale of Cassandra’s house and divorce are settled. While on the island, Cassandra discovers a whole new life and opening up a secondhand bookshop has been the perfect remedy for her failed life. Now with new friends and a business, she is totally happy, as she never wants to find love again, until English actor Louis Jensen appears in her life.
Filming his latest movie on Kangaroo Island, reported alcoholic and playboy Louis Jensen is frustrated with his younger co-star and supposed love interest Tess Harper and annoyed that they had to film this movie so far away.
On a day off of filming Louis and Tess head into the local town where Louis discovers a secondhand bookshop and a woman that he finds a little intriguing.
A second meeting sees them organising a day on the beach but their afternoon together turns into the most amazing twenty hours either of them have had in a long time.
With Louis returning to New York, all they have are memories as they each try to move on with their different lives.
Months go by and Louis eventually returns to the island but his reunion with Cassandra is not that easy.
Over the course of many months their relationship takes a lot of twists and turns as Louis tries to leave his wild, party lifestyle and adapt to the quiet secluded life of living on the island and Cassandra needs to trust that this relationship will not see her heart broken again.
