This island is truly a slice of heaven. If you are docking in Naples, Salerno, or anywhere on the Amalfi Coast, put this on your excursion list first. There is so much beauty to see... so much history to reflect upon.... so much shopping to experience. Just follow the stars...the "Hollywood" ones, that is! This is their glitzy "go to" when it comes to visiting an island that offers them all of the brand-name products they are used to, in the most gorgeous of surroundings. (Of course, you probably won't see them while you are on the island...as they come out after the last boat off the island leaves around 6 PM.) If you are here for the first time and have limited time on shore, book the all-day "Island of Capri" tour by hydrofoil to Capri with one of the Tour Companies I've listed, or DIY by pre-planning your visit by reading through all the chapters (5 walking tours "On Your Own" on the Isle of Capri). First Time Best Choice: On arrival, board a minibus at the dock for a drive to Anacapri, where sightseeing options include a ride up Mount Solaro via a chair lift for 360-degree panoramic views, then visit the beautiful Villa San Michele and its gardens and collection of antiquities. Next, head back down to Capri Town for lunch, go shopping or wander through the central square, before taking the funicular back down to re-board the hydrofoil for the return to your departure point.
