The apostle Paul says in Romans 9:4-5: "who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God, Amen."
Perhaps you hadn’t noticed this little gem tucked away in the middle of the letter, but it is a tremendous description of what it meant to be among God’s people in the past. We are not so much interested in a history lesson, of course, but in seeing to what extent each of these eight great privileges can find its answer today in our service for God.
