Berlin, summer of 1945, one woman and two men are trapped in a web of deceit in the ashes of the Reich’s capital. Mathilde struggles to feed her family and grasp the horrors. Her husband, Franz, is a Gestapo officer on the run trying to escape his destiny. Camillo, the enigmatic Gypsy, falls in love with Mathilde, the enemy’s wife, while she learns to love him as he uses her to revenge the murder of his family. This is a novel of survival, forbidden love and betrayal in the ruins of Hitler’s Third Reich.

A couple in real life as well as work, started out their artistic careers in theater: Günter Overmann as co-artistic director, playwright in residence, and director in various German theaters; Gabriele Kosack as actress.
Now writing full-time, they are both novelists and script writers for German television, currently working for the most successful series on European TV—Sturm der Liebe—and developing new shows for various German networks. Gabriele’s novel Am liebsten alle zusammen and Günter‘s novel Tauchgang are available in German language only. A Dance in the Ashes was written in partnership, and is their first to be translated and published in English
