A Life Worth Living – Schizophrenia Alternative Treatment
    By Suzanne Ayer Patterson
    Summary

Any family with a member or child with schizophrenia is forced to make a succession of rapid-fire decisions for which they have neither information nor experience. This book was written by a mother who experienced just this, and after her son’s suicide one year after being diagnosed with schizophrenia and being put on antipsychotic drug treatment, started looking for answers for what exactly had happened.

A Life Worth Living – Schizophrenia Alternative Treatment is a personal narrative and research-based work divided into three parts. In Part 1, author Suzanne Patterson shares her terrifying experience of having a son suddenly show up with symptoms of schizophrenia and her witnessing of all the changes he went through while on antipsychotic drugs. Devastated, she was left in the dark for most of that time, and the only doctor who was able to counsel them, offer advice and explanations was Dr. Jose Mackliff, a psychiatrist and scientist residing in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Part 2 answers questions that any parent in the same situation has about the disease schizophrenia and the antipsychotic drugs which are the only legal treatment in the U.S. for treating the disease. She exposes the politics and payments that are part of the approval process for releasing and promoting these drugs.

Part 3 offers a beam of hope for treating schizophrenia. The BEAM treatment, bi-lateral electro-coagulation of adrenal medulla, was developed by Dr. Jose Mackliff, a psychiatrist and scientist in Guayaquil Ecuador. This new and radically different treatment has been successfully done on 100 patients with schizophrenia since 2006, with a success rate of 97%. All of the patients and their families consider themselves to be cured from schizophrenia. What does cured mean? It means that the patients no longer experience the symptoms of schizophrenia, no longer need antipsychotic medicine or only take minimal dosages, and that the patients now live normal lives with all of the capabilities, talents and intelligence that they had before manifesting the disease schizophrenia.

The book is designed to offer clarity and hope for those living with this devastating disease.
