In seeking a way to teach Emotional Intelligence to a group of scientists, I was forced to put the information together in a way to which they could relate. The table shows many (though certainly not the full breadth and depth of) different emotions and ranges from the pure and "noble" emotions (like love, peace, and joy) to the heavy and complex emotions within passions and depressions. The Table also ranges from the more somatic feelings on the left to the more heady and spiritual ones on the right.
To make the chart fun and interesting, each emotion was given a chemical symbol and an atomic weight. Though not all of the emotions, many symbols and weights were disguised visual jokes to intrigue and entertain my class of scientists. Love had the weight of 3.14 because it makes the world go round. Gratitude was of course 24.7 but denial, thinking it has no weight, has nothing. Dread, the heaviest of the emotions was given the estimated weight of the world! Though many symbols are just two-letter abbreviations of the emotion, some symbols, like giving pleasure the symbol of Mm, were also hidden jokes. Disappointment was a bummer (Bm), contentment was expressed as Ah and relief as a prescription (Rx). You will have to find the rest for yourself.
