April kicked off with the arrival of the Alliance Defending Freedom in Australia, partnering with the Australian Christian Lobby. The LGBTI community took on the Catholic Church as they tried to blackmail companies that support gay marriage, and we won. From there it went downhill! A gay couple were driven out of their home in an outback town, after a spate of anonymous anti-gay editorials in the local paper. The conservative fight against Safe Schools - a program designed to curb anti-LGBTI bullying - gained traction. And then the shooting at Pulse in Orlando happened, triggering a massive vigil in the main square of Melbourne. The state premier apologised for all the harm done to LGBTI people in the past by the law. The quarter ended with the run up to the general election, with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull trying to sell a plebiscite on equal marriage to a profoundly sceptical LGBTI community.
