It was a journey unlike anything I had ever experienced. After working part of a summer at a camp in Austria, I set off alone on my bicycle to explore the country. Out of contact with everyone I knew in the world, I wandered across Austria, following rivers, riding up mountains and visiting villages so quaint and picturesque they seemed magical.
The thrill of discovering castle ruins and exploring ancient monasteries was matched only by the awe I felt riding through Austria's lush pastures, terraced vineyards and mountain passes. I slept in field, hostels and in the homes of strangers, developing a deep appreciation of this land and the hard-working farmers and shopkeepers who lived here. It was a life-changing experience.
