Joseph Alleine (1634-1668) was a Puritan minister ejected by the Act of Uniformity in 1662 and was imprisoned for his preaching. An Alarm to the Unconverted is his best-known work and has been available in numerous editions since its first publication in 1672 and is also known as A Sure Guide to Heaven.
He examines mistaken views of conversion which, despite the passage of time, are still heard today. Further chapters deal with the true nature of conversion and its necessity, all stirringly applied to the reader. This book has been used to awaken many to the reality of spiritual things and it will continue to be an inspiration to Gospel preachers today.
