William Q Judge's work herein should be understood as one of the more important works specifically dwelling on Theosophy's basic tenets- first written in the late 1800s, it was reprinted later in several forms, the work having been extended in length from its original form, which had been somewhat shorter.
Some level of struggle existed in the Theosophical Society and various offshoots and subschools of its content at the time of the writing- Judge was one of the central figures in this period, and remained one of the more high ranking proponents of what we may retroactively term pure Theosophy, in its original spiritual form.
Those unfamiliar with Eastern terms, especially those taken from Vedic culture, and Aryan lore, may need to conduct a bit of side reading concurrent with their reading of Epitome of Theosophy; because much of the spiritual content is taken from such Eastern paths, some of the terms may be unfamiliar. It mentions, of course, various concepts such as Devachan, Kali-Yuga, and others, as part of its Theosophical doctrine.
