All streets seem to be equal. Therefore it is necessary to give them names. In old times the streets had the name of the one who lived in them, of the nuns, of the Marshalls, the Millers, the Walkers, the Smiths, the Tailors… suddenly everything changed, as if the professions and the important people living in them were not important any longer.
The streets were named after strange people who did not need their names on a street sign to be important. Camões did not need a Rua de Camões, nor did Afonso Henriques… It is obvious that also the less important people wanted to become important with a street name.
