    Sobre

Written in the experimental style of William Faulkner and James Joyce, "A Bend of Shadows" follows the defining moments of a woman that is trying to survive a difficult marriage and her own insecurities in the hard life of the Appalachian Mountains. Beginning with a simple front porch conversation, the reader is slowly brought into the main character's, (Odessa) past, present and future with the use of various storytelling techniques of first person confessional, stream of consciousness and a one-act play. Her life is defined by her husband, Dollar and she will do anything for him because of a horrifying event that leads into the novel's creative story-telling technique of hallucinatory stream of consciousness. Because of this event Dollar realizes he can now do anything he wants and she'll not raise any objections. This leads to the end of a marriage, a loss of children and the ultimate truth- Don't marry someone because you're afraid of being alone for the rest of your life because if you're married to the wrong person, you're still alone.
