An uplifting story of a young beggar-child, Bobbin Derby, mistakenly labeled an orphan who is left behind in Victorian London. Bobbin writes in a journal to grapple with her past. A sudden twist and turn of fate unfolds as the sweet-minded “orphan” eventually finds her lost and almost forgotten mother. A wealthy benefactor interceded early on and eventually becomes part of her family. Tear jerker, touches the heart many times over. Inspiring and full of insights. A must read. I loved this one of Kennedy’s … and have read all of her wonderful books.
William Miller, voracious reader …
A sweet and inspiring story of growth and the uplifting of the downtrodden … I loved it. Kennedy is a superb writer in this genre of historical British fiction … she follows the morals and manners of the day. Yes, I recommend this book, read it often.
