Each year, thousands and thousands of baseball gloves are purchased for the experienced, who have played the game for years, or for the inexperienced, who have never played the game. They are big, small, blue, red, multi-colored; you name it and you can usually buy it. This piece of leather (no matter what size or color) made in the shape of an over-sized hand, may help you make catches you would normally not make. Back in the 1870's, baseball players didn't use a glove. They played the game "bare handed." The first confirmed baseball glove use was by a St. Louis outfielder and first baseman named Charlie Waitt who, in 1875, wore a pair of flesh colored gloves. These gloves had their fingertips removed. The flesh color was to make the glove as inconspicuous as possible. At that time, the gloves were used to knock the ball down rather than catch it. It's amazing how the baseball glove has evolved form the fingerless gloves of yesteryear, trending to gloves with no webbing and lacing between fingers, to the modern gloves with added padding and the basket-style pocket of today. If you use the OLD-FASHIONED way of breaking in a glove, you will do the thing that many players still do today; you use it! You put oil on the glove, message it, bend it, and play catch with it. Since most of you people are non-professional players, and you only use your glove periodically, it will take weeks and probably months to break in the glove to your satisfaction. But why do that? Why use a stiff, unmanageable glove, making errors along the way, when you can "break in" a new glove yourself, in less than a week and have the glove feel as though it has been used for a year? You may do this when following the procedures in "How To Break In A Baseball Glove The Semi-Old Fashion Way." By learning "The Semi-Old Fashion Way," you can "break in" a glove in a week or less without using it in a game or practice and have that glove be pliable and supple as though it has been used for a year. You'll be amazed with the results.
