In particular, Grand-Place is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe and was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.
In the Brussels-Capital Region, French and Dutch are official languages, and all public services and information are shown in both languages.
There are many headquarters of international organizations in Brussels.
Among them, the European Commission which is the most important European Union institution is based in the Berlaymont government building in Brussels, and the Council of the European Union is based in the Justus Lipsius government building opposite the Berlaymont government building.
Brussels is also known worldwide for its gastronomy. Especially in the Ilot Sacré district, on the north side of Grand-Place, there are many restaurants which are crowded with tourists as well as local residents.
In addition, Brussels is also the center of Belgian chocolates, and many famous shops such as Godiva and Leonidas have their headquarters in Brussels. It is also well known for the Belgian waffles.
It is only 2 hours and 7 minutes by Eurostar from London, and it is 1 hour and 22 minutes by Thalis train from Paris to Brussels, so you can enjoy one day trip from either of these cities.
