A VICIOUS CYCLE
Some days I don’t feel like being healthful.
I want to eat bread and butter, and finish it off with a cupcake.
But then I will be depressed.
And angry with myself.
And ashamed that I have no control.
And hungry because I want something doughy and sweet and fat-laden.
And then, when I eat it, I will feel satisfied for exactly seven seconds.
And next, I will think about how much I hate my fat thighs.
And finally, I will think about what I’m going to have for dinner.
Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what’s for lunch.

Cake, Fries, and My Fat Angry Thighs is a collection of reflections, confessions, and anecdotes that explore the frustrating cycle of emotional overeating, sugar addiction, self-loathing and the quest for self-acceptance. In this book, Marcy Sproull explores her own issues with her weight, the temporary respite that a good sugar cookie seems to offer, and the struggle to love her thighs and dance in public, despite said thighs.
