Extradition and extradition treaties are becoming an increasingly important international legal issue. The moving of criminals over international borders is a risky business and can have serious consequences for both the country receiving and the country sending the criminal. If a country refuses to comply in an extradition case their relationship with the country requesting the extradition can be seriously damaged. The requesting country could go as far to seize trading with the other country, having a major impact on the economy. Diplomatic ties could be cut, having a major political impact. It is important to keep in mind that although extradition may seem like something governments keep in the back of their minds, it does have consequences that are far more severe than the transfer of criminals.
