Kathleen Warren has her heart set on marriage to Bernard Thring, but her father has his reservations about the boy's prospects. One night he forbids Bernard the house and insists that his daughter marry a business colleague instead - the repugnant Raphael Gomez. Next morning however, Warren's body is found in the dilapidated church at Carfax Abbey, the Oxfordshire country house which Warren has recently acquired. The police suspect foul play - and when Bernard Thring is accused of the crime, his sister Pamela and her barrister friend set out to discover the truth...
