The purpose of this report is just to express the work I had done during my field practices. My field practice was carried out at Tanesco company in ICT Department. The main objectives of this field work is just to put into practice what I had studied in class lessons during the one year of certificate course. The report is concerned of full work descriptions of tasks undertaken during the field practice, together with the lessons leant. Together with this there is my analysis of the work that I was taking through my field work practice. Also from this field work there are so many lessons learnt compared to those in class since its more practical and more things experienced for my future carrier. My focus was on practicing more for my future carrier and also the exercises reflected on academic competence at each level of study. Apart from that there are a lot new ideas that I have attained from this practice of which I know they will be useful to my coming lessons.
This report is all about what I have been doing during my field practices and what I have benefited from this practice. First on the hardware section I was able to perform computer maintenance activities which involved manual cleanness and replacing equipments such as; CD/DVD ROM component, hard disk, RAM, power supply etc. On top of that I also learned different parts and sections on computer together with their functions. Also on hardware section I was able to connect a computer to its peripheral parts before its usage. This involved connecting monitor, keyboard and mouse to the CPU and then connecting it to the power system and finally retests it for its usage. Also I was able to connect scanner and printer for different activities.
Second on the software section I learnt how to install windows and application programs by use of internet. I leant how to uninstall programs, troubleshooting problems concerned with windows and solving them also searching for software’s through the internet and downloading them. Also on top of that I learnt to solve different problems by studying their possible solutions through the internet. Some of the programs installed are printer software. Additional to that I managed to troubleshoot different problems concerning windows also scanning for viruses and updating anti viruses. I also learned how to use command prompt especially on solving different problems that arise with computers. Lastly I learnt on network area, this area I had to connect network cables from the computers to the switch through the trunks. I learned to set and configure IP address. In fact I got a big challenge because I had just an introduction to networks but in here it was extended so deep. In fact I had a big lesson and I thank my supervisor for his help and support.
My stay at Tanesco Company was real good because I had a lot of things to learn. Also there were a lot of things to achieve as well as to collaborate with other people, explore new cultures and get to know how works are done in real environment. Despite of that this was very good experience for my academics, personal life and professional life too. This field training helped me to associate with different people, experience a work life and get to know different aims aimed by different people. My stay at Tanesco was really challenging this is because many of the activities done were new to me but am so grateful for all the support that was given to me, but the general challenge I as a student faced during this practical training is lack of practices during my yearly studies. Since many things I learnt were theoretically and were always done that way. Sometimes I lacked confidence of sharing ideas with other trainees since most of the other trainees were ahead of me and I felt as if I knew nothing but to my surprise I just came to realize that no one knew everything. Therefore everybody shared the knowledge he or she had attained and so here I got my courage.
