アルゼンチンの首都ブエノスアイレス。そこには過ぎ去って行く人生のひと時をいとおしむかのように、タンゴを楽しむ人たちがいます。静かに目を閉じて老いも若きも一心にステップを踏むその様子を見ていて、私は台湾の侯孝賢監督の映画のタイトル『戯夢人生』を思い出しました。まさに「夢と戯る人生」──それは一見虚無的であるようでいて、実は困難な現実を生き抜いてきた庶民の知恵であり哲学であるように思うのです。

As if cherishing a moment in time during the passing days of life, people are delighting in dancing the tango.
Young and old, gently closing their eyes and purposefully performing their steps. The subtle movements, the stylistic nuances, and the amalgam of what is real and what is not in the tango remind me of a movie by Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien called 戯夢人生, or 'The Puppetmaster' in English.
Life played out in a dream. A seemingly nihilistic pursuit, yet it represents the folk wisdom of the people here who have survived the difficult realities of life, and something akin to a philosophy.
