Cutting Edge Cell Therapies for use in Follicular Unit Hair Transplantations (English Edition)

This short publication provides an overview of the cellular environment in the human scalp and an evaluation of a cell-based therapy that can be used in conjunction with hair restoration surgeries to improve clinical outcomes. Specifically, the theoretical potential for naturally-derived or synthetically-generated extracellular matrix components to enhance healing and hair regeneration in follicular unit extraction sites is considered, and a case study from our clinic wherein extraction sites treated with extracellular matrix components alone or in conjunction with hyaluronic acid sustained 18% or 42% hair regeneration, respectively, is presented.
