Dick Whittington’s London (Walks around London Book 1) (English Edition)

    Sobre

This walking guide contains information for dog-owners, parents of young children and those in wheelchairs.

Dick Whittington and his pet cat make up one of the most famous partnerships in London history. The tale of how a poor orphan from the country came to the great city to endure poverty and hardship, but to end up as one of the richest men in the kingdom and to serve as Lord Mayor is one of the best loved stories of the city. It has featured in books, plays, movies and pantomimes.
Now this book not only retells the legend, but also reveals the truth about Dick Whittington and his cat. It also takes you on a walking tour around London to visit the sites connected with Dick Whittington.

This series of books is aimed at those who love London and want to find out more about our wonderful city and its history. Each walk concentrates on a particular person, theme or period of history with special meaning for London.
We have tried to make these walks as inclusive as possible. We have therefore made sure that each walk covers ground that is suitable for buggies so that parents can take young children along, and for motorised wheelchairs or mobility scooters for those who use these vehicles.
We also want to include dog owners. While dogs have no trouble with the sorts of terrain to be found in London, they are not always welcome in pubs and cafes. We therefore include in these books advice on which hostelries along the way welcome our four-legged walking companions. Similarly we mention those which are child-friendly and those with disabled toilets and step-free access. Please note that just because we do not mention a pub or cafe along the route, it does not mean that they are no good. This is a walking guide, not a restaurant guide.

This walk consists of a 6 mile walk around the City of London and nearby areas. There are also two optional excursions to places outside the City related to Dick Whittington. One of these is a 4 mile walk to Westminster and the West End. The other consists of a tube trip on the Northern Line to Highgate Hill.
Four mainline railway stations lie on, or close to, the route of this walk. You may join the walk at any of the following:
    Cannon Street
    Blackfriars
    Farringdon Street
    Waterloo.
The routes of these walks go past many excellent venues and attractions - churches, museums, libraries and the like - many of which are worth a visit. If they are relevant to the subject of the walk we will say so. Again, just because we don't mention something does not mean it should be avoided - we have concentrated on places relevant to the subject of the walk.
