DIPLOMACY AS A SUPPORT TO FOREIGN TRADE: A comparative study between Brazil and Germany

    Por Luiz Gilberto Mury

    Sobre

Brazilian total exports in 2000 were US$ 50 billion, 59% of this value classified as manufactured product. In 2013 shipments abroad reached US$242 billion, but the share of manufacturing fell to 38% (Ministry of Industry, 2014). Among the reasons for this relative decline is the overall supply of industrial products, which increased with factory openings in the Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe after the fall of communist regimes and the entry of China into the WTO in 2001. Facing this newly imposed reality, this book intends to investigate the recent strategies adopted by Brazil and Germany at both private and diplomatic level in order to maintain an active export industry. For that, an extensive research in each country for a specific industry will be conducted and, at the end, public actions and strategies in the private sector will be proposed aimed at increasing Brazilian exports.
