E.M. Forster on Gadamerian Hermeneutics: The Clash of Horizons in A Passage to India (English Edition)

    Por Michael Giffin

    Sobre

One of the more interesting and illuminating aspects of "A Passage to India" is how closely it reflects the hermeneutical theory Hans-Georg Gadamer describes in his influential "Truth and Method" (1960). It is doubtful this was intentional, as Gadamer was only twenty-five when the novel was written, and Forster was probably not a student of hermeneutical theory. Intentions might be less important than influences, however, and both Forster and Gadamer were influenced by the spirit of their age (5,100 words).
