Finally! The novel we’ve all been anticipating (I know I've been anticipating it), the world waiting with bated breath (My breath has been bated, but it could be my asthma), Easing Into the Sequel. A novel whose title begs reading. The flip side of Easing Into the Night, The Night a more straightforward detective story with an immortal perp, fantasy not letting loose until towards the end. The Sequel jumps in with both feet, fantasy from the get-go. An “experimental” telling of a tale in blocks of story with no less than four THE ENDs.

When we left Bob, he was dead. Something of a setback for an immortal who had lived 10,000 years. But Jack, the guy in the white room, had told him he was going to become a god, a promotion of sorts for all the easings he had done over his long life. And Archie may have been handed the baton for easing, but only time would tell, as the baton came with a perk—immortality. (If none of this makes sense, go read Easing Into the Night at www.amazon.com/dp/B01I0DTYI2.)

Upon Bob’s passing, the Universe settled into its new reality. He has been gone for 200 years, and Archie has relocated to Mars where he works at Sir Branson City’s “Unsolved Crimes” division. The arrival of a new employee brings Archie to the spaceport. An unexpected meeting has been set up for him and two others who are gods already, along with a computer collective, HAL, that’s promoted to god and The God Gene, aka James, a combination of energy and biological matter, a god created in the lab.

A new religion has spread through the known universe, Bobism. What About The Bob, the first of The Bible of Bobism series, was published by Archie soon after Bob’s passing and is now the predominant religion. A religion focused on easing. Helping those passing from this life to whatever the next may be.

Excerpt: “Now, the aged are no longer left to their own designs at death, a lonely time at best for many. People who don’t deserve to go that way, a trial no one should go through alone. For the last steps in our lives, as we approach death’s gateway, are usually ones on unsteady legs and bent bodies while we try to look through failing eyes at a future that we aren’t sure of and have no control over. Our final days lying in a bed not our own in a sterile hospital room, or an ill-kept, musty one where visitors are few. Our minds become sluggish, dementia claiming many, causing us to fear what is a natural occurrence.”

    The Sequel includes:

All the gods ever worshiped by man, together for the first time (not all have speaking parts).

The story of the big bang. A ruckus romp through the widespread devastation that was our beginning, challenging the Universe’s pucker power; its creation comparable to making an omelet and having to break a few eggs, but bigger.

Introducing: Fate, Time, and The All. A look into the business end of their operation along with peeks into Fate’s plane.

Excerpt: “The skies have been my life, but I see nothing in this one I find recognizable,” said Michio Kaku waving vaguely at the unheavenly, uncelestial, unfamiliar ceiling above. “This is not the physics we know. It is some inside out, backward, illogical, unbalanced version, but quantified by its being—I exist, therefore, I am. It cannot be denied what stares into our faces every moment of our existence, we just don’t know what that is,” he finished, looking back at Einstein who stood puffing on his pipe and shaking his head, all of his quantifications amounted to a hill of black holes in this sky.

The Wayback Machine. Pulled from the annals of history (that must have hurt) and delivered by Fate for the purpose of . . . you’ll have to read the book to see.

Yankee Stadium, back when baseball was “The” game and some players elevated to gods. DiMaggio, Marris, and Mantle are the next three batters up in a peek back in time as Archie settles into his latest promotion.
