Eugenio Castellotti was the most promising driver in Italy when he died at 26 while testing a Ferrari for the 1957 Sebring International Race. Like his mentor, Alberto Ascari, Eugenio died at the Autodrome Circuit near the Modena, Italy Ferrari headquarters. He left quite a legacy of racing accomplishments despite his very young age. Among these were numerous victories driving Lancias and Ferraris in sports car races. He won the 1956 Florida race at Sebring with World Champion Juan racer Manuel Fangio as his teammate. As a Grand Prix driver Eugenio entered 14 Grand Prix events and had three podium finishes in his short career.
