5ks is a long way to run for someone whos always been overweight. It seems as far out of reach as a marathon. Once the author realised her weight had gotten out of control, just after her 30th birthday, she made changes to her diet and began to lose the extra kilos. That was the easy part. The biggest battle was with that awful little inner voice that kept her confidence so low that she couldnt bear to exercise in public, which made her goal of running a local 5k Fun Run seem impossible. A funny thing happened the more she exercised though - some other little inner voices began to shine through and helped her to the start line for that one loop around the local Inlet.
