MATLAB is a software tool considered as the abbreviation of ‘MATrix LABoratory’. When the context is the study of Engineering, the paradigm of study has qualitative aspects conveying the concepts through fundamental principles and postulates which are well supported by analytical and graphical investigation. The nature of MATLAB with its immense graphics, computational and presentation capabilities along with simulation and animation options makes it a perfect match as a useful tool for carrying out such analytical and graphical investigation. In this book an attempt is made for such an integration. The book starts with a chapter giving the essential aspects of MATLAB to the extent necessary to apply for issues in Engineering. This is followed by application of MATLAB in the hard-core Electrical Engineering subjects such as Circuits, Power Systems and Machines. The purpose of the book is not to give an exhaustive treatise either on MATLAB or on the subjects mentioned as this would be too vast to be contained in a single book. As a via media, necessary qualitative background is given for the topics dealt with and each line in each of the programmes is accompanied by a descriptive statement. After a thorough study of the book, it is hoped that the user would be in a position to apply MATLAB not only for enhancing the capabilities of the programmes given but also for a number of other topics not covered in the book. Though the applications are chosen in the field of Electrical Engineering, the fundamental aspects covered should as well suit for applications in other branches of engineering.
