Sir Edwin Arnold (1832 - 1904) was an English poet and journalist most known for his work The Light of Asia. While working for the Daily Telegraph in conjunction with the New York Herald, he arranged the journey of H.M. Stanley to Africa to discover the course of the Congo River. In his poetry Arnold wanted to interpret English verse in describing the life and philosophy of the East. He used his experiences living in India in writing his poetry.
