Melissa Morris (alias Tia Maria) is a clothing store owner in modern New York City. She receives a phone call from a lawyer in Tombstone AZ stating she is the only living heir of Wyatt Earp and tends to inherit his estate. But, she has to go to Tombstone to receive it. She takes a plane from New York to Tucson, rents a car to drive to Tombstone.
About halfway there (thus the title: HALFWAY TO TOMBSTONE) she hits a deer and goes in a ditch knocking her unconscious. When she regains consciousness, she is on a stagecoach heading for Tombstone.
