889 AD. Bjorn the Tall's very presence commands respect from his warriors and terrifies his enemies. Towering above every man, as muscular as a bull, the Viking king exudes power and primal strength.

To avenge his father's murder by the king of Northumberland, Bjorn leads his Viking army to the shores of England. He plans to winter on the coast, under a reluctant treaty of peace bartered with the ruler there, King Godric of East Anglia.

King Godric's adopted eighteen-year-old son Oeric is fascinated by the Vikings, especially the Viking king. Oeric has lived a sheltered life—albeit an unhappy one. Rejected by his father and excluded from court, Oeric must watch the Viking king through a peep hole in the wall of the great hall.

But when Bjorn catches Oeric spying, he punishes the beautiful young man passionately, leaving Oeric confused, terrified, enticed—and even more afraid of his father.

Caught between two kings—one who should love him, one who does love him—Oeric must walk the razor's edge between loyalty to his father and his passion for the Viking.

In the Ancient Warrior Series, just as it takes two men to wage war, it takes two men to wage love.

Excerpt from His Viking Invader I:

Oeric was sweating, the handle of the knife slippery in his hand. The door snapped, a sharp crack, and was pushed open. Dim torchlight silhouetted a giant dark form which filled the door so completely that light only showed at the man’s lower legs and to either side of his head.

Only one man was that big. Bjorn.

Oeric gripped his knife as Bjorn bent his head and entered the room, closing the door behind him. A mix of odors filled the room: roast boar, tallow candles, spiced wine.

Oeric leaped out of bed wearing only his linen underwear. He held the knife before him. Weak moonlight reflected off the blade.

“I am Oeric, son of King Godric.” Oeric cringed. Did his voice really sound that thin and fearful? He raised it. “Get out!”

Bjorn walked forward. Oeric prepared himself. He had never been in a fight. He had been trained in wrestling, but was a failure.

Bjorn paused, not because he was about to fight Oeric, but to remove his clothes. Oeric moved toward the open window, his eyes fixed on the dark giant. He knew that he stood a better chance of escape by the window than with a knife. He was far from the ground, but he had climbed out of his window more times than he could count, had fallen more than once and had survived with a few bruises. While the Viking undressed, he could jump out and escape.

Oeric watched as Bjorn removed one of his belts.

That’s when Oeric ran for the window.

Bjorn moved as fast as lightning, grabbing Oeric by his middle, twisting the knife from his hand and dropping it to the floor. He threw Oeric violently onto the bed.

Oeric hit the bedding and rolled to the opposite side, but Bjorn was on him, the bed creaking from his weight. Oeric fought as Bjorn gripped both of his wrists in one iron hand and yanked him to the head of the bed. Oeric felt his shoulders pop, and he kicked and cursed as Bjorn used a belt to bind his wrists to the headboard.

Oeric started to shout, but the Viking leaned close, gripping Oeric’s cheeks with one hand, effectively stopping him. He was so close that Oeric could feel his breath on his face smelling of roast boar. Oeric couldn’t look away, and he would have wept if Bjorn’s words hadn’t nearly stopped his heart:

    “No noise.”
