Sophie Douglas has created a strict life dictated by The Plan: work as hard as she can as an executive administrative assistant in New York City, save every penny, and then follow her dreams of enrolling in school to become an interior designer to the rich and famous. For a while, The Plan goes along smoothly, and she finds herself within reach of her goal. But then her world begins to spin out of control. First, the boss's playboy son is brought into the business in the hopes of him "learning the corporate ropes". Unfortunately for Sophie, she finds herself spending most of her day fighting off the son's smarmy attempts to get into her pants. Then her boss announces a mandatory corporate retreat that includes whitewater rafting down a wild Oregon river, which is definitely not a part of The Plan. She is an interior kind of girl, and the thought of spending a week in the exterior is her worst nightmare come to life.
It is on the banks of Oregon's wild Snake River where Sophie meets Heath, the handsome but elusive chef who creates incredible gourmet meals for the rafters. At first, Sophie finds him conceited and just another "pig-man", like all the men in her life. But a disastrously wild ride on the river forces Sophie to spend time onshore with Heath, and whether is it the delectable meals he prepares, the breathtaking beauty that surrounds her, or the unexpected gentleness of the river rogue, she begins to question if her first assessment may have been too harsh. Her emotions go on a wild ride of their own, and by the end of the trip, Sophie wonders if The Plan could be adapted to The New Plan, and could it include a beautiful river and a man she never thought she would find?
Along with a love story you won't soon forget, this book also contains many of the mouth-watering recipes Heath creates along the riverside, such as Heath's Damn Good Salted Caramel Brownies, Grilled Burritos with Homemade Chorizo, Fresh Mozzarella and Truffle Grilled Pizza, and Sophie's Mystery Jam.
