In the mid 1970s, the building industry in Australia underwent great change. The emergence of militant trade unions rewrote how the participants in the industry would reshape their operations to enable survival and prosperity. Guerilla warfare had become the name of the game. As in all wars, the first casualty was truth. Many builders were repulsed by the changes and faded away. Others embraced them with gusto and seized the available opportunities. Brace Baker more so than the others. It was not a pretty industry; many players in it were far from pretty! But the way was open for someone to make a bloody fortune. And so it came to be for one cunning-as-a-shithouse-rat operator.
