IELTS in Context Speaking is a topic, skill and vocabulary based course which enables students to listen to authentic examples of students taking speaking tests, practise the same speaking tasks and evaluate their own ability in comparison.
It is accompanied by mp3 audio (either as separate mp3 sound file downloads, or embedded into the e-book) and is equally suitable for self-study, or classroom use.
The speaking exercises are set within topics that appear frequently in the IELTS test so that speaking ability is developed around relevant topics using structures and functions of grammar that are required for the test.
Skills development targets sociolinguistic and pragmatic aspects required for speaking test candidates such as showing willingness to communicate, presenting ideas cohesively, using appropriate pausing, listening to examiner questions and strategies for dealing with difficult questions. Vocabulary is introduced at regular intervals so that the student may build essential words and phrases for use in the test.
