Kodemaster Kids: Level 1, Booklet 1: Learning to program a sprite using Scratch (English Edition)

    Por David Winfield

    Sobre

The 'Kodemaster Kids Series' of booklets have been designed to guide children through their first programming steps to using high-level, real-world programming languages and developing apps.

They have been written by David Winfield, a former Head of Computing, Deputy Headteacher and Information Technology Subject Adviser for the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools in the UK.

The beautifully designed guides carefully scaffold learning in a fun, informal way. They are intended to promote Independent Learning and are perfect for schools, home-schooled children and all children (and grown-ups!) with an interest in coding. This booklet is aimed at 7 and 8 year old children and has been tailored to meet the requirements of the UK National Computing Curriculum (and the US K3 and K4 equivalent).

This first book in the series concentrates on the first steps of programming a 'sprite' (character) using 'Scratch', the child-friendly web-based programming language which is available free of charge at https://scratch.mit.edu

Using the booket, the child is introduced to the main work areas of scratch and learns how to change sprites and backgrounds. They also learn about 'scripts' and the importance of sequencing as they move their sprite around the screen. There are links to mathematics as important programming concepts such as co-ordinates and axis are introduced in a fun, hands-on way. The child is also encouraged to discuss and reflect on their learning, as well as practice further to encourage mastery.
