ANDRETTI NON-PAREIL
Tells the story of an ordinary man, less than he'd hoped, more than he sees, who gets that rare chance at living his dream. But dreams and the possibility of them become real can be a heavy burden to bare.
WHAT I DID FOR THE MONEY, is based upon the life of an independent film producer and my friend. Leo entertained me with stories form his past until I asked if I cold use them in a script. With a little imagination and some real laughs, I send Leo down the Rabbit hole. Sexual dysfunction isn't everyone's road to the top, but not everyone isn't this lucky.
ASLEEP THE SNOW CAME FLYING. Kayesha was my great love. We only had 3 months together before death took her at 22 years old. I wanted to write something with she and I as the main characters but I couldn't think of a good story. A year and a half later I saw it.
HOGS ON SKATES. I read about a submariner fro World War Two. His sub went down with all hands, except him. He was the sole survivor. Rather than thinking that he was lucky, he felt cursed at not dying. HE carried a great guilt at being alive. He spoke of seeing the dead's faces and hearing their voices. The psychology of the guilt ridden sole survivor fascinated me. I saw the story of a World War One fighter pilot who sees everyone around him die, he alone lives with their memories. He is a man who will lose his faith that God is good and merciful. War will teach him about another God, the God of War.
THE WILLIAM BROWN. This is dramatization of the Case UNITED STATES vs HOLEMS (1842) 26 F.Cas. 360. When the passenger ship, The William Brown, sinks after hitting an iceberg. The crew abandon most of the passengers leaving them to their deaths. Over the next days they also murder more to save themselves. This case is the first of their prosecutions. What struck me hardest is the Judge's instructions to the Jury. It reminded me, we are, in the end, just animals trying to survive, no better nor worse than animals of bare teeth and claw. All civilization comes down to survival.
